Professional Racer and Precision Driving Instructor for BMW, Johan considers himself a gear head fanatic who loves being behind the wheel. Johan is a Guinness World Record holder for the longest continuous drift in 2013 and Pirelli World Championship winner in 2015.
Born and raised in Denmark, Johan's passion with cars began at age six when he came up with his own rating system for cars listed in a annual consumer guide book. Johan started his racing career on the family farm when the fields were harvested and the ponds froze over. Johan came to the US to finish his college career, which included his MBA, and to pursue racing on regular basis. After working for Fidelity and Mullens Advertising, Johan wanted racing to be full time.
In 2001, Johan started Endurance Karting, an arrive and drive karting program with events (schools, endurance races, private events and charity events) up and down the East Coast. The idea came to him after writing articles or European magazines about driving schools in the US. Over 1,500 unique customers participated with Endurance Karting included Marco Andretti, Jerry Nadeau, Ernie Irvan, David Bain, Trevor Bayne, Chad McCumbee and two youngesters having their first racing experience in Johan's Race School who are now champions NASCAR driver William Byron and Indy driver Josef Newgarden In 2013, Endurance Karting was sold to allow Johan to pursue new opportunities and develop his racing schedule.
As a Factory Precision Driving Instructor at BMW Performance Center Johan has the opportunity to share is his passion for performance driving while also getting seat time in all BMW models, vintage, to GT4 to M series and the new M235 r. "It's a job the participants can't believe is a job" Johan says "I know it is rare to have your passion be your hobby and your job". While at BMW Johan got the idea to set a World Record for the longest drift after a student asked how long he go in a drift. Johan quickly realized the opportunity and along with the help of his wife who had handled marketing and events for their karting business, set out to set a record. Together they put on an event which did this, raised almost $35,000 for charity and Johan set a new record drifting 51.28 miles. The record and a photo are published in the 2015 Guinness World Record book and ideos of the event posted by both 26" Productions and BMW's internal group as well as other outlets have garnered over 1.5 Million views.
In 2014, towards the end of the season, Johan was brought in to drive for a TCB team in Pirelli World Challenge. Great battles and wins were just what Johan needed going into a full season for 2015 with World Challenge. Johan won the 2015 Pirelli World Challenge TCB Championship and in the same season made history for Chevrolet in the opening weekend at COTA with a triple win.
Johan has continued to race, although not a full season to run for a championship. He has been coaching and racing in World Challenge, American Endurance Racing series and several other private track days in NC, VA and CA.
Johan is available for private instructional both at the race track as well as private one on one at the BMW Performance Center.
